IACSEE's Fourth International Conference was held in the historic city
of Durham, England, and took as its central theme 'Entrepreneurship and Citizenship
in the 21st Century'. The conference took place from 9th to 11th of July in 2001 at
St. Aidan's College, University of Durham. The programme included such highlights as the Third
Dorothy J. Skeel Memorial lecture (held in memory of the Association's first Chairperson) on
Human Rights and Citizenship in a Multicultural Society, given by Prof. Audrey
Osler, Director of the Centre for Citizenship Studies in Education at the University of
Leicester, UK, and the Georgia Council International Lecture presented by Prof. Eugene
Luczkiw, Director of the Institute for Enterprise Education in Toronto, Canada, on the
subject of Enterprise Education in the 21st Century.
Speaking on the centre theme of the conference, Prof. Eugene Luczkiw
said: "The meaning of enterprise goes beyond the definition of enterpreneurship as a business
subject. The Institute's defintion begins by looking at each person's distinct gifts and talents,
their meaning, purpose and values, which help define their mission in life. Learning takes on a
much richer context when we connect our mission with opportunities in the classroom and the
community."
