The Association's Inaugural Conference, subtitled 'Hands Around the
World' was held in Glasgow, Scotland from the 22-24 June, 1995. Association members from Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Sweden, the UK and the United States gathered together for the conference held at the Stakis Glasgow Grosvenor Hotel, and enjoyed a programme of keynote addresses, members' papers and two four-hour pathways addressing Economic Mysteries and the Social Curriculum.
"Rigorously organised and academically rewarding," was how Pui-kai Chan
from the Hong Kong Institute of Education described the programme. Thomas McKinnon
, from the University of Arkansas, summed up the feeling of many participants when he said:
"I've enjoyed meeting many new colleagues and sharing some exciting ideas with them. I've
learned a lot."
The first IACSEE conference set a trend for its successors, both i
n terms of its content and the amount of positive feedback received from those who attended it.
The Association appreciates the help of BT Education Service, Glasgow Education Business
Partnership and the Glasgow Development Agency who sponsored the conference.
IACSEE published the Proceedings of the First Conference
